Strategic Collaboration Meeting on Sustainable Soil Amendment Development with Watawala Dairies

Date: 29th March 2025

Bio Natural Foods (Pvt) Ltd (BNF) successfully conducted a high-level discussion with a leading milk production company, Watawala Dairies, focusing on the development of an advanced agricultural product derived from cow waste. This initiative marks an important step towards sustainable resource utilization and environmentally responsible agricultural innovation.

The primary objective of the meeting was to explore the development of a scientifically formulated soil amendment using cattle-derived organic materials. This project aims to transform dairy waste into a high-value agricultural input that enhances soil fertility, improves microbial activity, and supports long-term soil health.

The discussion brought together a distinguished group of experts and professionals with strong academic and industry backgrounds. The participants included Mr. Damindu, Prof. Gamini, Prof. Janaki, Dr. Keerthi, and Dr. Denis O’Leary. Their collective expertise provided valuable insights into scientific formulation, large-scale production feasibility, and potential environmental impacts.

The delegation visited Dr. Sanath Kumara Munasinghe, the Founder and Managing Director of BNF, to engage in detailed technical discussions regarding the concept, research direction, and implementation strategy of the proposed product. The meeting served as a platform to align scientific knowledge with practical industry applications.

This collaborative effort emphasizes BNF’s commitment to developing sustainable, natural, and economically viable agricultural solutions. By utilizing cow waste as a resource, the project aims to address multiple challenges simultaneously—reducing environmental pollution from dairy operations, improving soil quality, and providing farmers with effective organic alternatives to chemical inputs.

The partnership with Watawala Dairies highlights the importance of integrating agriculture and livestock industries to create circular, resource-efficient systems. Through this initiative, BNF continues to strengthen its role as a leader in natural innovation and sustainable agricultural development in Sri Lanka.

Further research, pilot trials, and product optimization phases are expected to follow as part of this project, with the long-term vision of delivering a commercially viable and environmentally beneficial soil amendment to both local and international markets.
